...will return on June 7th! Until then, you can enjoy previous Manificent Monday cutie pies on my blog!
...will return on June 6th!
If you're a Gleek, like I am, you'd know this week's cutie pie. Mark Salling plays Noah "Puck" Puckerman, a sexually charged football player and Glee Club member on the Fox comedy, Glee. He not only sings and acts, but he also writes songs, and plays the guitar, piano, bass and drums...a real jack-of-all-trades! Catch him on Glee on Tuesdays, 9/8 Central!
Word(s) to describe: Yummy! Magnifique!
In order of the new movie, Just Wright, coming out this Friday, rapper/actor, Common, is this week's cutie pie. Common's hits include Love of My Life: An Ode to Hip-Hop with Erykah Badu, Southside with Kanye West, and I Want You. You've seen this cutie in Smokin' Aces, Street Kings, American Gangster, Wanted, Terminator Salvation, and you'll see him Friday in Just Wright with fellow rapper/actress Queen Latifah. I am SO looking forward to going to see it! What do I notice about Common, besides his conscious-style of rapping? His eyes, smile, body...and I'm lovin his bald look! Sadly, ladies, he's rumored to be taken. His lady is none other than tennis superstar, Serena Williams.
Word(s) to describe: Simply gorgeous!
Where I am in the writing process: I've finished one manuscript and am working on my 2nd one. I've put manuscript #1 to the side after no takers, but will be taking another look later on this year.
My current problems: Having the energy to write after a hard day at work, or when I'm too tired and pooped to write. Or sometimes, I'm too wrapped up in life's problems, that I'm not thinking about writing, which is weird cos writing's usually my therapy. Honestly, I've been feeling really blah lately, you know? All of my writing have suffered this week, even my blog writing. Never fear, tho. I'm determined to get back on track!
Question this week: Would you be disappointed if 5 years from now you still wrote 500 words everyday and weren't published? What then?
My Answer: I love writing and will keep doing it, whether I'm published or not, for as long as I can. BUT, I think, if 5 years passed and I still wasn't published, I'd be a little disappointed. Not enough to stop writing and give up, tho. I mean, I've been writing, as a career, for a little over 5 years now and I'm still not published. Yes, I'm a little disappointed, but I don't let that keep me from writing. It's like I have to write, published or not. My world's not right if I don't write (hence this week being a difficult week for me).
What about you?
Here's a recent conversation between me and a nine year-old about our love for Disney channel:
Nine year-old: I like Sonny With a Chance and Good Luck Charlie. Do you like those shows?
Me: Well, I like Sonny With a Chance, but I haven't seen Good Luck Charlie. I don't have cable.
Nine year-old: *Gasp* You don't have cable? Well, what do you watch? You watch movies all day? (she says this like it's a fate worse than death)
Me: Nope. I sometimes watch regular channels.
Nine year-old: What's regular channels? (she says this with a perplexed look)
Me: You know. NBC...CBS...
Nine year-old: *Blank Stare*
Nine year-old: *Blank Stare*
Me: Channels 2...11...13... (now I've got the perplexed look)
Nine year-old: *Blank Stare*
Me: Ay, forget it.
I guess not having cable/satellite is a sin this day and age. smh
This week's cutie pie is none other than Armando Christian Pérez, aka Pit Bull, a Cuban American rapper from Miami. Pit Bull's hits include "Culo", "Hit the Floor" with Twista, "Ay Chico", "The Anthem" with Lil Jon, and more recently, "Krazy", "Hotel Room Service", and "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)". You can also hear him in Cypress Hill's new single, "Armada Latina," which I love btw. Now, there is something I'm not "krazy" about Pit Bull...he has a VERY hairy chest. But, that doesn't take away from his cuteness (as long as he keeps it covered, I'm straight). The things I like about Pit Bull? His gorgeous eyes (I must be an eye chick), his lips, and I LOVE his voice!

In The Exorsistah, Ms. Burney introduces us to Emme (pronounced Emmy) Vaughn, a feisty 17 year-old who can see demons. All she wanted was her plate of just-cooked french fries, but instead, she was attacked by the no-good husband of her friend, KiKi. She escapes and finds herself at a 24-hour Walgreens, pissed and hungry, with only a quarter to her name. To make matters worse, a demon has just walked in behind a suspicious looking man. Despite being tired and hungry, Emme is ready to kick some demon butt. Fortunately for her, she doesn't do it alone. She's joined by another customer, Francis, a cutie pie 'blacktino.' After all is said and done, Emme learns that Francis is in training for the priesthood - unfortunately for her - and wants her to join a team of exorcists/demon fighters. Will Emme accept the invitation or will she attempt to navigate the streets - and demons - alone?
Okay, I must say, Claudia Mair Burney is now one of my FAVORITE authors. The Exorsistah is my fourth Burney book and I have yet to be disappointed. Seriously. She's awesome. And I absolutely love Emme. She's led a pretty rough life, with traveling from foster home to foster home. Her mother, whom she misses so much, is unable to take care of her because she's been committed to a mental institution. Emme's had to deal with men trying to get a little too 'friendly.' She looks forward to her 18th birthday (33 days away) so she can finally be out of the foster care system and on her own.
The Exorsistah is a perfect example of a book with a strong female main character. I love the fact that, despite having it rough, Emme doesn't go about life with a 'woe is me' attitude. She has a hard time trusting (for obvious reasons), but she tries. And her voice! I love it, even with her 'Ebonics' way of talking. Ooh, and Francis...muy caliente! What a wonderful hero for our heroine.
The funny thing is, when I bought The Exorsistah, I had no idea the main character would be 17. I thought it would be an adult book. I definitely recommend it to both adults and teens, tho. Claudia Mair Burney has done it again! And I SO look forward to book #2, Exorsistah: X Returns. Its release date is on my birthday, September 28! What a perfect birthday present!
