This week's cutie is Steven Lopez, an Olympic medalist in Taekwondo from Sugar Land, Texas. He and his three siblings are on the US National team for Taekwondo. He, along with two of his siblings, have participated in the Olympics and have won world championship titles. I love his dimpled smile!

Ok, so I agree that the whole Lebron-a-thon deal was a bit much - it was as if we were waiting for the president to make an announcement - but I'm in awe of all the "hater-aid" these people are dishing out to Lebron James. I mean...wow!
First of all, people are making a big deal out of ESPN's coverage. I mean, HELLO! They could've chosen not to watch it. I'm assuming, since they were whining about the coverage and how egotistical LJ is, they did watch it. It was their choice. When it got to be too much for them, they could've...oh, I don't know...changed the channel. But, they didn't. And now they choose to berate LJ and ESPN for it?
And the Cav fans...whoa, boy those Cav fans. I'm confused. Maybe someone could help me out. When did doing what's best for you become a bad thing? Huh? When did Cleveland, Ohio become...entitled to all that is King James? One of the fans interviewed said he hopes LJ doesn't get a ring in Miami and comes back to Cleveland to win one. Um, if I'm not mistaken, he was in Cleveland for 7 years and the treasured ring eluded him. So, he chooses to go where there's an even better chance of getting that ring, and he's "cowardly"? I mean, really, people? REALLY?
#1, this is the NBA. Players switch teams, teams trade players. IT HAPPENS. I guarantee you, if he'd have stayed, and the Cavs used up all of his talents and he couldn't do on the court what he's doing now, they would've traded him without a second thought. He would've been gone...outta there...buh bye King James. I guess the fans would've burned his jerseys and called him "disloyal" or "traitor" then, right? smh I wonder how many of those fans are divorced (meaning they left a marriage because it wasn't working out) or went to another job (meaning they left their previous job because it wasn't working out), or bought a new car (because...yep, you guessed it...it wasn't working out). #2, I can't even fathom an owner spewing such words of hate about the same man he was just courting - and probably begging - a few days ago. Read Dan Gilbert's reaction to LJ's decision to leave here. And the fact that he personally guarantees the Cavs will win a championship ring before LJ does astounds me. Do they have another player on the same level - or higher - as LJ? Will he have something better than James, Wade, and Bosh together? They may win a championship in the future, but before Lebron James wins a ring? I don't think so. But I guess miracles happen, right?
There's a saying I like to use for certain circumstances, and I think this circumstance is perfect: build a bridge and GET OVER IT! I'm sorry if it sounds harsh, but come on! It's okay to be hurt and upset at LJ's decision, but it's NOT okay to take it to the level these people have taken it. He's on a quest for a championship ring. Players move all the time to the team they think will help them get that ring. Why isn't it okay for LJ to do it?
I hope he does get his ring. In fact, I hope he gets several rings. Maybe that'll shut the haters up. Then again, maybe not. Haters never quit. That's ok. If Lebron James is anything like me, he'll use the haters as motivation. He'll work even harder to prove them wrong. Go for it, King James. Your real fans are behind you.
NBA Finals. Tonight is the night. Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals. I knew it would go to a game 7. Not to sound jaded or anything, but it's all about the money here in the U.S. Either teams winning too early wouldn't have garnered alot of money...especially if it were a sweep. Now, the finals going to a game 7? That's guaranteed money, especially since it's between the Lakers and the Celtics. People are going to watch, no doubt about it.
So, with that being said. Game 7. Tonight. Lakers vs Celtics. Who do I want to win? The Celtics. Not that I'm this huge Celtics fan. I like them, but I'm a hometown team kind of girl, so it's about the Rockets (can we go back to the glory days of the mid '90s when our team was HOT). I'm not a Laker fan. I think it's more because I'm not big on Kobe. I know, shocking, right? Finally someone who doesn't live for everything Kobe. Don't get me wrong. Kobe's got skills. Some of his moves are just like...wow. I can't take that away from him. The man's good. I just don't particularly care for him. I won't be cheering him on, which means, I won't be cheering the Lakers on, which means, GO CELTICS!
By the way, in my eyes and heart, Michael Jordan will always be the best. The way Jordan played...pure art in motion. Kobe's good, but he's no Jordan, at least not to me, a Michael Jordan fan for life.

In honor of the upcoming Superbowl, I decided to celebrate by posting pics of an NFL player for Manificent Monday. My original choice for the Superbowl was Jets vs Vikings, but, alas, it wasn't meant to be. Come Sunday, February 7, 2010, the Indianapolis Colts will play the New Orleans Saints. Since the Saints were my 2nd choice for Superbowl champs (Vikings being #1...unless, of course the Texans had made it), I'll be cheering for the Saints on Superbowl Sunday. So, I guess you can figure the team today's cutie pie is from. This man is too delicious for words. If you get a chance, purchase February's issue of Essence, which features him (and other cutie pies, btw). Who am I talking about? Why, Reggie Bush, of course!

NBA Finals. Well, my Rockets didn't win game 7 on Sunday against the Lakers. My poor, poor broken heart. Oh, well. I'm still proud of them. They went farther than so many people thought they'd go. So, Lakers (and Lakers fans), while you're cheering and moving on to the Western Conference Finals, ask yourself, 'How in the world did we let a team, whose big name players (McGrady, Ming, and Mtumbo) sat on the bench during most of the series, force us to game 7?'
Now that my beloved Rockets won't be in the finals, who do I want to see play for the coveted title of 2009 NBA World Champs (along with the rings and trophy)? While I'm not a Kobe fan, and I would love to see a fellow Houstonian (Orlando's Rashard Lewis) get a ring, I'd really like to see Los Angeles Lakers vs. Cleveland Cavaliers. That would be the game to watch...like the 'old' days of Jordan vs. Magic Johnson or Jordan vs. Bird...two talented teams - Lakers (as much as I'm not crazy about the Lakers, you've got to admit they're good) and Cavaliers; two dominating players - Kobe Bryant and LeBron James. I'm not on the 'I Love Kobe' bandwagon, but I'd be out of mind to say he's not awesome on the court. And LeBron? Wow! Michael Jordan will always be the best to me, though. I still love watching old clips of 'Air Jordan'. Anyway, I want to see the Lakers vs. the Cavs, Bryant vs. James, in the finals with, of course, James and the Cavs taking the trophy home.
Dancing With The Stars. YAY! SHAWN JOHNSON WON. WOOHOO. This almost makes up for the Rockets' loss. I still think Lil Kim should've been in the finals, but whatever. The underdog has prevailed!
Summer. My oh my, where has the time gone? May is almost over already! Summer vacation is right around the corner. So, how will I spend my summer? It won't be like last summer, where I spent a glorious 5 weeks in Cuernavaca, Mexico (gorgeous place, btw). I'll be working (gotta pay bills), writing (gotta finish my books), and working out (gotta get ready for Puerto Rico in December). I'm sacrificing my summer travel so I can have money for my December trip. I'm sure it'll all be worth it when I'm chilling on a beautiful beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 7 months. This summer, I've also got to work on my Spanish. Watching Spanish novelas (Telemundo's, El Rostro de Analia, is my addiction) is really helping me. Surprisingly, I'm understanding most of what they're saying. I have to have my bilingual sister talking to me in completely in Spanish so I can practice speaking it. The only problem? She's like a drill sergeant when it comes to teaching me Spanish...scary. ::shudder:: The reason I am excited about December:

Dancing With The Stars. Finally! Ty's fans couldn't save him this time. I'm very happy with the final three. Who do I think will take it? Gilles or Melissa. Who do I want to take it? Shawn. I'm a sucker for underdog stories, and, between the final 3, Shawn is the underdog. Go Shawn!
NBA Finals. Speaking of underdogs...WHAT ABOUT THOSE ROCKETS! YEAH, I KNOW I'M YELLING, BUT IT'S HAPPY YELLING! The Rockets were awesome last night. I mean, really. They were awesome, forcing the series to a game 7. So many people didn't think they'd make it against the Lakers (some still think they won't make it), but, here they are, going to game 7. The game is in LA, but I still think they can win. They've done it before (um, hello, game 1). Sunday, at 5:00, Houston time, I'll be in front of my dad's big screen TV, cheering the Rockets on. GO ROCKETS!!!!
Fitness Friday. 6 inches. That's how much I've lost this past month. No poundage, though. That's ok. I'm still working it.
Prom. So, I'll be leaving in a few minutes to go to prom. No, I'm not a Senior in high school. I'm a 32 year old (33 in 4 months) and I haven't been to prom in 15 years (I can't believe it's been 15 years since I graduated from high school! Ugh!). My sister, who's a high school Spanish teacher, volunteered me to go along and help during this time. Thanks, little sis. I'll definitely be blogging about tonight's experience.
Dancing With The Stars. What were y'all thinking? Vote Lil Kim off? That wasn't a very smart decision, I must say. I mean, Ty is very likable, I admit. He has a certain...aura or air about him that kinda makes it hard not to like him. And he has improved since he first started. But, unfortunately, DWTS is not about who's the most likable or who's improved the most. It's about who's the best dancer and Ty isn't one of the top. Lil Kim was. In the top 4, I saw Melissa, Gilles, Shawn, and Lil Kim, not Melissa, Gilles, Shawn, and Ty. Again I ask, what were y'all thinking? I was so...I don't know, surprised? Pissed? Shocked? All of the above? LIL KIM SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE SEMI FINALS...NO, SHE SHOULD'VE BEEN IN THE FINALS. I am so not a happy camper. So, I said earlier that I wanted either Lil Kim or Shawn to win it. Obviously Lil Kim can't, so I'm voting for Shawn (although I'm thinking Melissa or Gilles will probably take the trophy home). And what was up with Bruno's comment Monday night, "You try to be a lady, but you're more comfortable being a tramp..." I mean, really Bruno? Lost some serious cool points for that one. I'm thinking (hoping) he meant she's more comfortable doing the fast, booty shaking dances than the slow ones. But still. He must not've heard about the 'Think before you speak' phenomena...
NBA Playoffs. It's one of my favorite times of the year. NBA playoffs. And the Rockets are in the West Semi-finals for the first time since 1997! I'm so proud of them. So they lost last night. The thing is, they're not giving up, despite the fact that they're playing the Lakers and people seem to think they'll fall flat on their face (cause, come on, it's the Lakers). I, for one, believe they can take the Lakers, but that's just me. I am NOT a fan of Kobe, so I really want the Rockets to beat LA, whether it takes them 7 games to do it (which, I think it will) or not. And, besides, I love it when the Rockets are the underdogs. I seem to remember a time when the Rockets were the underdogs of the NBA playoffs and they ended up becoming the champs...twice (remember Clutch City, 1994 & 1995). I don't see any reason why we can't do it again. What about the Kobe-Artest/Fisher situations...must we result to this (Lakers)? Do you think Kobe will be reprimanded (if it shows that he did indeed elbow Artest above the shoulders)? No special treatment! If he did it, he should be suspended (but it's Kobe...excuse me for sounding doubtful). Fisher was wrong, too. Anyway, the next game is here in Houston. LET'S GO ROCKETS!!
Jury Duty. Ugh. Had to do it yesterday. Spending hours in the jury assembly room, waiting to see if they'll call my number to go on the jury selection, only to find out that they (the court) won't be doing jury selection at all...not how I wanted to spend my day. And all this for a whopping $6. Yay me.
During the torture, she even reached out for her mother and said "I love you" in pleas to make it stop. My heart is breaking just thinking about the pain little Riley had to go through before she died. She didn't deserve it at all. I don't care how difficult she may have been. My nephews are a handful, but NEVER have I thought about flinging them across the room, dunking their head in a tub full of water, or anything even remotely close to that. They're my babies! I can't even fathom harming them in those ways, not even in their most challenging times.
2.4 pounds...that's how much I've lost since January 1st! 2.4 pounds! Yay me!
Goal: Lose 65 pounds; 2.4 pounds down...62.6 pounds to go.
This past Sunday, my family and I went to the Texans/Bengals game. We had excellent seats, not far from the field. We were able to see everything - even stuff that happened off the field. Great game, great seats, tons of fun. To make it even better, the Texans won. They did good. And guess what I did that I'm still regretting today? FORGOT MY CAMERA! Actually, we all forgot our cameras. ARGH! I couldn't capture how close we were to the field. I couldn't capture the excitement on my nephews' faces. At one point, when they played music, one of my nephews got up and danced. Hil-ar-i-ous! Sadly, I didn't capture that either. :(
GO ROCKETS!!!!!!!! 21 WINS IN A ROW! THEY'RE IN SECOND PLACE FOR THE LONGEST WINNING STREAK IN NBA HISTORY. THE LAST TIME WE HAD A WINNING STREAK LIKE THIS (19 WINS IN A ROW) WE WENT ON TO WIN THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP (I THINK IT WAS 1994-'95).
