He's the son of the Wayans brothers' sister, Nadia. Damon Wayans Jr is a SPITTING IMAGE of his cutie pie father, Damon Wayans! I mean, he looks JUST like him...and a little like his uncle, Marlon. Tickle-Me Tuesday

A Really Bad Day

There was this guy at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stays like that for half of an hour.

Then, this big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand to see a man cry."

"No, it's not that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep, and I go late to my office. My boss, outrageous, fires me. When I leave the building, to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police said that they can do nothing. I get a cab to return home, and when I leave it, I remember I left my wallet and credit cards there. The cab driver just drives away."

"I go home, and when I get there, I find my wife in bed with the gardener. I leave home, and come to this bar. And just when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison."

Girls night out

Two women friends had gone out for a Girls Night Out, and had been decidedly over-enthusiastic on the cocktails. Incredibly drunk and walking home they suddenly realized they both needed to pee. They were very near a graveyard and one of them suggested they do their business behind a headstone or something. The first woman had nothing to wipe with so she took off her panties, used them and threw them away. Her friend however was wearing an expensive underwear set and didn't want to ruin hers, but was lucky enough to salvage a large ribbon from a wreath that was on a grave and proceeded to wipe herself with it. After finishing, they made their way home.

The next day the first woman's husband phones the other husband and said, "These damn girls nights out have got to stop. My wife came home last night without her panties." "That's nothing," said the other. "Mine came back with a sympathy card stuck between the cheeks of her butt that said, 'From all of us at the Fire Station, Well never forget you!'

Moses and Jesus Playing Golf

It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon while Moses, Jesus, and another guy were out playing golf. On the first tee-box, Moses pulls out his driver and blisters a shot up the right side of the fairway, rolling fast towards a water hazard. Moses quickly raised his club, parting the water while his ball rolls through to the other side safely.

Next up on the tee, Jesus hits a really long drive right towards the very same water hazard. His ball came to rest dead center of the pond, hovering just over the surface of the water. Jesus casually walks out onto the pond, and chips it up onto the green within a couple feet of the flagstick.

Not impressed, the third guy steps up to the tee without taking any time and just randomly whacks at the ball. Rightfully so, the ball is hit with a nasty hook that clears the left OB markers and goes over a fence into oncoming traffic. It bounces off a truck's windshield hitting a nearby tree, bounces onto the roof of the greenkeeper's shed, back out onto the fairway and towards the same pond that Moses and Jesus hit. Before it gets wet, the ball ricochets off a small rock and bounces onto a lily pad on over the water when a bullfrog jumped up and ate the ball. Right at that moment, a bald eagle swoops down and grabs the frog, flying away. As it flew over the green, the frog squeals with fright and drops the ball right next to the flagstick, taking one bounce and landing in the cup for an astounding hole in one.

In disgust, Moses then turns to Jesus and says, "I hate playing with your Dad."

Man-ificent Monday: Lance Goss

This cutie pie plays Calvin Payne on Tyler Perry's House of Payne. His movie, Our Family Wedding with costar, America Ferrera, opened this weekend. Can I just say that I LOVE chocolate? He reminds of the Dove Smooth Chocolate candy bars that I love so much. His fiancee, model/actress, Eva Marcille, is a lucky gal!

"...let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!"
John 8:7

Rae's Thought: This scripture comes from one of my favorite passages in the Bible. It's the story of a woman caught in the act of adultery...a pawn in the Pharisees' plat to discredit Jesus. The Pharisees were pompous religious leaders whose goal was to catch Jesus in a lie. They paraded this woman in front of a crowd, humiliating her, waiting to see what Jesus had to say. the crowd hurled insults at her, ready to stone her, while Jesus knelt down and silently wrote something in the dirt with his finger. We're not told exactly what he wrote, but some scholars believe he listed every sin of every person ready to stone the woman. "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. The law of Moses says to stone her. What do you say?" (John 8:5) These leaders wouldn't leave Jesus alone until he gave an answer, so he finally stood up and said, "All right, but let the one who has never sinned throw the first stone!" When the crowd heard this, they dropped the stones and left, one by one.

Unfortunately, this kind of Pharisaic behavior still goes on today...in the family of God, no less. Murderers, thieves, adulterers, drug addicts, homosexuals, etc. They all get labeled as filthy sinners unworthy of God's love, but worthy of the worst punishment available. We, as a people, point them out, hurl insults, and humiliate them in front of a crowd that's ready and willing to stone them. Recently, I heard stories of Christians persecuting homosexual men and women in God's name. When people found out that Tiger Woods cheated on his wife many times, they wanted to throw the book at him, calling for the ending of his career and life as he knew it.

By no means am I condoning these behaviors. People are so quick to judge and correct others and they're ignoring their own sins. Jesus addresses this in Matthew 7:1-5: "Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." We have absolutely NO right to judge others because of their sins.

Humans compare sins - making some worse than others - but God doesn't. In His eyes, the one who tells a little white lie is just as guilty as the man who lusts after another man. The one who disrespects their parents is no different from the murderer on death row. "For EVERYONE has sinned; we all fall short of God's glorious standard" (Romans 3:23, NLT). The Bible tells us that "if we claim we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and not living in the truth...we are calling God a liar and showing that his word has no place in our heart" (1 John 1: 8, 10).

Why didn't the crowd end up stoning the adulteress? Because they couldn't...and neither can we. "Let he who has never sinned throw the first stone."

Book Review: My Fair Godmother by Janette Rallison

Genre: Young Adult

Be careful what you wish for.

After she's spent her last dollar on the perfect prom dress, Savannah's boyfriend dumps her for her big sister. Heartbroken and confused, Savannah wishes for a true prince to take her to the prom.

Enter Chrysanthemum "Chrissy" Everstar, Savannah's pink-haired teenaged "fair" godmother - she's not a good fairy student, hence the title. In granting Savannah her three wishes, Chrissy accidentally sends her back to the Middle Ages, once as Cinderella and once as Snow White. Third time Savanna makes a wish, Chrissy sends Tristan, a surprisingly cute boy from school, to the Middle Ages to become Savannah's prince. Savannah takes another trip back to help Tristan. In order to get back to the present, Tristan and Savannah has to battle a cyclops, dragon, and the mysterious, yet sexy Black Knight.

I have to admit, I love fractured fairy tales, especially humorous ones that feature teens of today. Rallison's, My Fair Godmother, is such fairy tale. I would have loved to have seen more of Chrissy, but her small role comes in at the right times. Even though Savannah appears to be somewhat of an airhead at times, you do find yourself cheering her on. And she doesn't stay an airhead, but grows through the course of the book.

I definitely recommend My Fair Godmother to readers looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy with likable characters!

Random Thoughts Thursday

RIP Corey Haim. So tragic about his death! As a kid, I didn't have a huge crush on him, but I did think he was cute...especially that dimple. *sigh* Sad...

Another Death. But this is the death of one of my all time favorite TV shows: Ugly Betty. Only 5 more episodes left. I keep hoping that another station would pick UB up, but it doesn't look like it's happening. No more Betty? No more Wilhemina? I loved all the characters. And I loved the fact that the cast was diverse - lots of people of color. Not happy about this. I am happy America Ferrera will be in a movie (Our Family Wedding), tho. I'm definitely going to watch it...maybe this weekend. Lucky her, she gets to have cutie pie, Lance Gross, as her love interest!

50/50 Challenge. Clearly I haven't been doing a good job on my 50/50 challenge. This would be week 26 or 27, I think. Soooo, I'm starting over. Yep, all over. My motivation? My Gramps. He was rushed to the hospital last week...had a mild heart attack. He's doing well now, it's just that the scare was a wake-up call. Plus, I'm having problems with my high blood pressure again (constant headaches, swollen ankles, etc). Gotta take better care of my health. So, I guess my blogland peeps, along with my fam, will be my accountability partners; keep me on my feet.

Man-ificent Monday: Taimak

I had the HUGEST crush on Taimak!! The Last Dragon happens to be one of my fave movies...in spite of the fact that I look at it now and realize how cheesy it was. I love that movie. Taimak was gorgeous in The Last Dragon and he's just as gorgeous now, at almost 46...still in shape, too. Look at that smile...those dimples! Be still my beating heart!!!

"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."
1 Corinthians 10:13

Rae's Thought: This verse teaches us three things:

  • No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. Tempted? You're not alone. When we're going through something - whether it's a temptation or hardship - it's easy for us to pity ourselves and feel that we're alone in our struggles. We're not. Men and women have struggled since the days of the Garden of Eden, when Satan tempted Eve. Even today, men, women, and children are constantly having to deal with temptation. We can take comfort in the fact that our own Savior, Jesus Christ, had to struggle with temptation. Though He didn't fall, He still knows what we're going through.

  • And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. Did you know what, as a child of god, you have the power, through Him, to resist any temptation that comes your way - just as Jesus did? No temptation you encounter will be more than you can bear. God knows what you can and cannot bear. If you can't handle it, He wouldn't allow it. Whenever temptation comes your way, remember you are stronger...not the temptation. You have power because Jesus has power.

  • But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out that you can stand up under it. The Bible doesn't say, if. It says when, meaning you will be tempted. If you haven't struggled with temptation yet, keep living. You'll get to it some time in your life. Maybe even several times. Temptation is a given. Sounds depressing? It is if you're not a child of God, but for those who love the Lord...well, we've got good news. There is ALWAYS a way out. Always. You may say, "But, when I was tempted, I didn't see a way out. The temptation was to strong, so I gave in." First of all, see point #2. NO temptation will be too strong for you, no matter what it seems like. Second of all, did you care to look for a way out? Look for it. It's there. The question isn't is there really a way out; it's are you gonna take the way out or will you give in - not because you're not strong enough, but because you choose to?

Random Thoughts Thursday

So about 2 years ago, I came up with a list of things I wanted to do before I turned 35 (Rae's List). Clearly, I'll be 35 next year (Yikes!!!) and haven't really crossed much off the list. Sooo, I'm updating my list and making it a list of things to do before I turn 40...which - not that I really wanna think about turning 40 - but will happen in 6 years (Yikes!!!). This gives me 6 years to concentrate on crossing things off my list. I think the fun comes with trying to do each thing. Of course, I'd love to get married and have a child before I'm 40, but that's not my call. That's all on God. BUT, I'm putting it on my list. I'll update every few months and blog about my progress. For most of the things on my list, it's not that I'm afraid to do it or don't have the time. It's that I don't have the funds to do it. I'm not worried though.
